Five Common Organic Gardening Mistakes
Since the rediscovery of the numerous environmental benefits associated with organic gardening, more and more people are trying to go back to natural gardening methods. But like with anything new, mistakes are bound to happen. So if you are a beginner, then you should try to avoid some of the common organic gardening mistakes that many first-timers often make.

Organic Garden Mulch: Which Is Best?
There are an abundance of choices to use for your organic garden mulch. They vary in cost and availability dependning on where you live.
Bark mulches have a tendency to cost more unless you happen to reside close to a company that services trees.
Be sure to add a nitrogen fertilizer to your soil before putting down bark mulch if you are not going to compost it first.
Organic Gardening Tips
There are many organic gardening tips that you can use during the process of growing your vegetable, fruit, vegan or plant garden.
For starters, you can use mulch on your flowerbed and trees, with 3 inches of organic material. Doing this will help conserve water and add humus and nutrients to your soil. It will also discourage weeds from popping up in your organic garden.
If you are growing plants that love acid, thickly use mulch layered with pine needles during the fall season. While the pine needles decompose, they will deposit acid contained within them into the soil.
Organic Vegan Gardening
Just like with vegan eating, organic vegan gardening has to do with staying away from products made from animals. Blood and bone fertilizer are often used in both organic and conventional gardening.
There are some alternative options for vegan gardeners to use for their organic gardening. One thing that can help condition the soil is lime. It provides calcium and magnesium to the soil. It is important for calcium to be given to the soil because it helps strengthen plant growth. Lime also raises pH levels, which plants thrive on.
Gypsum is another thing vegans can use for their vegan organic gardening. It is hydrated calcium sulfate, which helps raise pH levels in the soil.
Using Organic Gardening Fertilizer
Using organic gardening fertilizer is the key to having a pure garden. There are different types of natural fertilizers that you can use; man-made or you can buy it from your local gardening store.
Since many organic fertilizers are slow-working, it is best to mix them in with your soil three weeks before you begin planting your organic garden. This will thoroughly prepare the soil for seeding or transplants.
Make sure to rid clumps of unrotted organic materials, so that they won’t interfere with the operation of seeding. It can result in nutrient deficiency and sometimes soil-borne diseases that can cause “damping-off” of young seedlings. Read the rest of this entry »
